The homeless community in seattle has been fighting for a long time to manage their own community. given the lack of financial resources from the city they have chosen to creat their own community with a kitchen, security, bathroom facilities and tents as housing.
this community gives them the protection and support system that they do not have when they are sleeping in the alleys on their own. they are being chased from various lots (even though they have been invited on the property by various church communities). last week the city had 2 sanitation trucks pull up in front of their community and were told that if they didn’t leave all of their belongings would be taken to the dump. the mayor’s office denied they would pull such a stunt (until they confirmed with their own dept. that they did do it).
