President Bush’s $1.96 trillion 2002 budget proposal:

Medicaid spending is cut $606 million relative to current law;

the $140 million for health professions training grants is 60 percent below the 2001 level;

the $200 million for teaching and training pediatricians in children’s hospitals is $25 million under the 2001 level;

the Federal Emergency Management Agency receives $270 million less than it needs to maintain current services;

the administration cuts more than $1 billion from
low-income housing assistance programs;

it ends the $316 million Public Housing Drug Elimination Program;

and grants to hire new police officers under the Community Oriented Policing Services program are reduced by $270 million or 46 percent.
