After a spirited trek through the North American West, Mexico author John Ross brings his latest work, “The War Against Oblivion – Zapatista
Chronicles 1994-2000,” to the east coast this April and May.
“The War Against Oblivion” is the season by season, seven year saga of the Zapatista rebellion in Chiapas, a Mayan Indian uprising that Ross has covered since its earliest hour. Ross recently accompanied the Zapatistas on their March for Indian Dignity up to Mexico City and will show footage of that historic march during his presentations.
“The War Against Oblivion” speaks to the reader through many voices: that of the rebels’ quixotic spokesperson Subcomandante Marcos, those of the Mayan villagers of the highlands and the jungles, the Mexican reporters who have so doggedly covered this conflict, and Ross’s own
irrepressible gift of gab.
