Celebrate International Women’s Day, March 8, 2001, in Chiapas!

Building on the success of our first Mujer A Mujer Delegation to
Chiapas, the Chiapas Support Committee announces its 2nd Annual Women’s
Delegation to Chiapas for International Women’s Day — March 1-9, 2001. This delegation offers an excellent opportunity to learn about the
historic and unprecedented changes taking place in Mexico and Chiapas.

(Briefings will be provided by non-governmental organizations working in
Chiapas.) Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn about daily
life in rural communities.

We will be spending three nights in indigenous communities (inside a
peace camp or school). These are somewhat rugged conditions and require
a sleeping bag and/or hammock and lots of flexibility. The remaining
nights will be in a posada in San Cristo’bal de las Casas or Tuxtla
Gutierrez while meeting with local NGOs for briefings.

The Chiapas Support Committee is a California non-profit group composed
of volunteers concerned about the victims of low-intensity war in
Chiapas. We have financially assisted projects of various Chiapas
organizations working with indigenous women.

Mujer A Mujer is a
delegation which will visit these organizations and the communities in
which they work to exchange information on issues of mutual concern to
women in Chiapas and here in the United States.
