34 Palestinians killed since recent “ceasefire”

Since the so-called "ceasefire" agreed upon on 26 September 2001 at a meeting between Israel’s Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and Palestinian president Yasser Arafat at the International Gaza Airport, Israeli occupation forces have continued their escalation of crimes committed against Palestinian civilians.

As part of a series of Israeli crimes committed against Palestinian civilians, on Friday morning, 5 October 2001, Israel’s occupation forces
committed a new massacre against Palestinian civilians in Hebron, which
led to the killing of five innocent citizens and the injury of 14.

According to LAW’s information, at around 2:20 am, October 5,2001, Israel’s occupation forces stationed inside the settlement clusters in
the center of Hebron, at surrounding outposts, and on the roofs of civilian homes that have been occupied during the Intifada, opened heavy
fire at Palestinian civilian homes in the neighborhoods of Abu Sneineh, Al Takruri, Al Karanteena quarters and Wadi Al Harieh, Al Sheikh and Jabal Jneidin.

Shelling on this neighborhoods by two Israeli attack helicopters with air-to-surface and medium and heavy ammunition accompanied the Israeli army’s incursion in PA-controlled territory of around 30 Israeli military machineries, including tanks, armored vehicles and troop carries.

During the shelling and incursion, many armed Palestinians rushed to confront Israel’s occupation forces. LAW’s researcher stated that two of
the armed men were positioned inside Abdil Majeed Amru, as Israeli helicopters shot two missiles at them and killed them instantly. It is
worth noting that their bodies weren’t distinguished only two hours after their death. The victims were the following:

Iyyad Samir Qafeeshah, 28, hit by air-to-surface artillery shrapnel, in which his body turned into remains since his head and shoulders, as well
as legs and hands, parted from the body.
Nidal Fayyad Qafeeshah, 25, hit by air-to-surface artillery shrapnel, in which his body turned into remains since his head and shoulders, as well
as legs and hands, parted from the body.

Whereas three others were killed:

Hazem Amru, 27, 2 gunshots in the head
Qasem Abu Afeefeh, 48, hit by heavy gunshot (500mm) while leaving Uthman Ben Affan Mosque after daybreak prayer
Ra’ed Abu Dauod, 23, heavy gunshots (500mm) in many parts of the body.

During the shelling and incursion 14 Palestinians were injured:

Ra’ed Qafeeshah, 20, critically hit by shrapnel in the head, neck and left hand.
Abdil Rahman Amru, 36, shrapnel in the head and right foot
Taleb Amru, 26, shrapnel in the head, neck and left leg
Mahmoud Amru, 25, shrapnel in the head and right foot
Mamdouh Amru, 21, shrapnel in various parts of the body
Ali Salhab, 18, shrapnel in the neck
Ahmad Abu Hammad, 19, shrapnel in the neck
Omar Taha, 1.5, shrapnel in various parts of the body
Muhammad Issa, 27, gunshot in the left foot
Anas Al Masalmeh, 11, gunshot in the left thigh
Yaser Salhab, 18, shrapnel in the limbs and abdomen
Imad Salhab, 20, shrapnel in the shoulder and legs
Nihad Salhab, 15, shrapnel in the limbs
Hanan Jamjoum, 31, gunshot in the left shoulder

At around 4:45pm on Thursday Oct 4,2001, Israeli occupation forces stationed inside the settlement clusters and their surroundings, opened heavy artillery fire at civilian homes in the neighborhoods of Al Sheikh, Bab Al Zawyeh, Abu Sneineh and Al Takruri.

As a result, 28-year-old Muhammad Shirbasi, from the Gaza Strip (a Hebron resident), was killed
due to heavy gunshot (500mm) that penetrated the left side of the chest, down the heart and left the right armpit, in addition to the injury of
three other civilians.

What is striking is the fact that since that meeting, and until Friday morning, Oct 5,2001, 34 Palestinian citizens were killed, including 30
killed by Israeli occupation forces and four in conditions that give credence to the suspicion that Israeli troops are responsible.

LAW is concerned about Israel’s continuation of escalating aggression against Palestinian civilians, the continuation of a number of countries to believe Israel’s claims concerning the "ceasefire," in addition to the continuation of grave violations of human rights committed by Israel’s occupation forces against Palestinian civilians.

LAW Society again calls on the international community and all its institutions to immediately intervene and stop the Israeli aggression and
urge Israel to respect the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949 in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
